The Spanish prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into accusations of sexual assault against Julio Iglesias (82). According to published information, they are supposed to relate to behavior towards several women from among his former staff. One of the most successful singers in history is accused by two former employees of inappropriate touching and sexual pressure in his residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, which were expected to occur in 2021.
One of the women, a cleaner going by the pseudonym Rebeca, told the elDiario server that the singer forced himself on her. She described how it “caused her great pain” and said she felt like “a robot, a slave and a doll”. The physical therapist, who goes by the name Laura, claims that Iglesias shortly after starting work, he asked her to show him her breasts.
According to the testimonies of both women, the singer should have asked them: “Do you like women? Do you like threesomes? Have you had breast surgery?” Subsequently, he should have touched them inappropriately. Rebeca further stated that she was forced to sexually satisfy him for a long time, allegedly because of his back pain after a 1963 car accident.
Another former employee, speaking only as Carolina, said the women had to undergo pregnancy tests and tests for sexually transmitted diseases. “They sent us all to the doctor. They tested me for sexually transmitted diseases,” she told elDiario.
The State Prosecutor’s Office in Madrid confirmed the initiation of a preliminary investigation. A spokesman said: “On January 5, a complaint was filed and a preliminary criminal investigation was initiated.” Julio Iglesias has not yet publicly commented on the allegations and has not been charged with any crime. One of his former superiors described the accusations as nonsense and his longtime friend, journalist Jaime Peñafiel, declared: “It’s all a lie. He never had to abuse women because he always had enough.”
