Minister promises more rest points for truck drivers – 01/16/2026 – Panel

The Minister of Transport, , met this Friday (16) with a sector that has gained political relevance in recent years and that the Lula government has sought to court on the eve of the start of the electoral campaign.

At a meeting in Pindamonhangaba (SP), the minister discussed the expansion of Stopping and Rest Points (PPDs) for truck drivers, which will increase from 8 to 50 on the country’s roads within a period of two years.

“This is President Lula’s determination to offer dignified service to truck drivers,” he stated. He also announced that, for the first time, these points will have medical care.

The meeting was interpreted as a gesture of institutional rapprochement with a segment considered strategic, amid the intensification of the federal infrastructure investment agenda.

Truck drivers have a fragmented leadership, with several representatives close to Bolsonarism. In previous years, they staged strikes or threatened to block roads for political reasons.
