Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes stated, in a decision this Thursday, that allies of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) “seem to demand” that the former president serve his sentence in a “hotel stay” or “holiday camp”. The transfer of the former agent to a room in the Military Police battalion of the Federal District (PM-DF) known as “Papudinha” was ordered by the magistrate.
“It should be noted, however, that these absolutely exceptional and privileged conditions do not transform the definitive fulfillment of the sentence of Jair Messias Bolsonaro, convicted by the leadership of the criminal organization in the execution of the very serious crimes committed against the Democratic Rule of Law and its Institutions, into a hotel stay or a holiday camp, as erroneously several of the demonstrations previously described seem to require, when comparing the General Staff Room to a “captivity”, when presenting complaints about the “size of the facilities”, of “sunbathing”, “air conditioning”, “visiting hours”, when distrusting the “origin of the food” provided by the Federal Police, and, when demanding the exchange of “television for a SmartTV”, to even “have access to YouTube”, says Moraes in the decision.
As shown by the Globothe Bolsonaro circle recognizes that the change represents an improvement in relation to the stay at the Federal Police Superintendency, where Bolsonaro has been since November, but it is still treated as insufficient given the former president’s health condition — which is why allies reinforced the pressure for house arrest.
Bolsonaro was taken to the 19th Battalion of the PM-DF, where former minister Anderson Torres and former director general of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) Silvinei Vasques are already present. The place earned the nickname “Papudinha” because it is next to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex.
In the same decision, Moraes authorized the former president to receive religious assistance in prison and participate in a program to reduce his sentence through reading. On the other hand, he denied the request for access to a television with internet access (Smart TV).
Since November, Bolsonaro had been serving his sentence at the Federal Police (PF) Superintendence in Brasília. The former president was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison by the STF for an attempted coup d’état.

The conditions at the site, however, were the target of complaints from Bolsonaro’s family and allies. One of the criticisms was about the noise from the superintendent’s air conditioning.
