São Paulo won its first of the year by beating São Bernardo, 1-0, on Thursday (15), in the second round of the Campeonato Paulista. The game marked the return to MorumBis after 82 days.
The rain, however, demobilized the fans, who also thought about the political tension experienced by the club. This Friday (16), the impeachment of the .
The weather also made any strategy on the field unfeasible, leaving the game without fluidity. The positive result was a fit that seemed to have potential in midfield with Pablo Maia, Danielzinho and Lucas. Luciano and Calleri’s entries were crucial to the victory.
The result places São Paulo in 10th place, with three points. The team plays the classic against Corinthians, at 4pm on Sunday, at Neo Química Arena. São Bernardo, which is fifth, with three points, hosts Noroeste, at 5pm on the same day.
With the heavy grass, few plays were well worked. São Bernardo surprised, with a strong presence in the offensive field. The visiting team was more creative, but found it difficult to finish.
The Lucca boy raised the rare crowd when he almost scored, in the 17th minute. He completed Wendell’s cross, in a play created by Lucas, but stopped at the post. The move was an exception in a very truncated first half.
In the complementary stage, São Bernardo was in danger in the first minutes. Rafael had to struggle to defend Felipe Garcia’s shot.
São Paulo reacted and started to have more offensive presence. The moves, however, were not completed. Even when they arrived in the opponent’s area, the São Paulo team were blocked by the defenders
Calleri came in and returned to play after nine months. The arrival of the Argentine, along with Luciano, excited the fans and pushed São Paulo forward. With new energy, the home team pressed more.
Luciano made the pressure count. In a free kick taken by Danielzinho, Arboleda hit the crossbar. The ball was left for the number 10 to dominate and fill São Bernardo’s net.
The goal was a blow for São Paulo. The players embraced Crespo, and the fans finally had relief in the midst of turbulent days experienced by the club.
Even with the advantage, São Paulo continued to put pressure on. Already in the 45th minute, Ferreirinha was queuing up when a line fell inside the area. Referee Murilo Tarrega Victor awarded a penalty, but canceled it after going to VAR.
