Tavira municipal budget rises to 61.5 million euros in 2026

Ana Paula Martins proud with national recognition

This year, Tavira City Council will have a budget of 61.5 million euros, a value that represents an increase of around 10 million euros compared to 2025, driven by community funding allocated to the areas of health and housing.

The municipal executive of Tavira, led by Ana Paula Martins (PS), considers that the favorable opinion issued by the municipal bodies regarding the budget proposal guarantees “the continuity and implementation of the defined strategic investments”.

Political approval guarantees executive stability

After approval of the proposal at a Chamber meeting, on December 17th, with four votes in favor from the PS and three votes against from the AD, and the favorable statement from the Municipal Assembly, on the 30th of the last month of 2025, with 15 votes in favor of the PS and an independent and 13 votes against from the AD and Chega, the municipality will move forward with “the implementation of structuring projects for the development of the municipality”, the executive highlighted to Lusa.

“In addition, the approval of the budget reinforces the political and administrative stability of the municipality, enabling the executive to fulfill the objectives assumed for this mandate in different areas”, added the municipality, pointing to Health, Social Action and Environment and Sustainability as the sectors that will concentrate more resources in 2026.

Health, social action and housing concentrate investment

As for the 10.5 million euros difference found between the amount budgeted for this year (61.5 million euros) and the 2025 budget (51 million euros), the municipality justified it with a “greater volume of community and national financing to support the execution of relevant investments”.

Among these investments are, he pointed out, the expansion of the Cabanas/Conceição de Tavira Health Unit, the Unit for high-resolution external consultations and outpatient diagnosis in Tavira or the construction of social housing units.

The Health area will have a total budget of 10.8 million euros, Social Action with 6.9 million euros and Environment and Sustainability with an amount of 5.8 million euros, the municipality in the district of Faro also quantified.

IMI, IRS and spills remain unchanged

Regarding taxes, he indicated that the minimum rate of Municipal Property Tax (IMI) will be applied to urban properties of 0.3% (according to the law, the percentage can vary between 0.3% and 0.45%), “with a fixed deduction also being granted for households with dependents”.

A “20% reduction will also be made for the rental of permanent housing” and for the “extension of the exemption period for buildings intended for personal and permanent housing”, he highlighted.

The variable participation of Personal Income Tax (IRS) will be 2.5% (the legal maximum is 5%) and the Surcharge of 0.5% for entities with a turnover above 150,000 euros, added the municipality, which kept the rates applied in 2025 unchanged.
