Milan Ondrík won the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Award for Best Actor in an International Feature Film at the 37th Palm Springs Film Festival. The film Father by director Tereza Nvotová competed in the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize category among 44 Oscar nominations. Producers Veronika Paštéková and Anton Škreko announced the success on the social network.
“His performance captivated us from the very first shot as a devoted father who begins an ordinary day by taking his daughter to kindergarten. But when a devastating discovery is made, his acting delivers a strong and palpable sense of sadness. “Ondrík sensitively captures the consequences of the current workaholic culture, the issues of burnout and mental health, while drawing attention to the reality of the forgotten child syndrome and the tragic losses that this film painfully recalls,” the jury quoted.
The film tells the story of a father who is convinced that he took his child to kindergarten. However, the little daughter was left behind in the car on a hot summer day. The film, inspired by a real event, had its world premiere at the Venice IFF, where it competed in the Orizzonti section dedicated to current film trends and young talents of international cinema. The Cinematik IFF also awarded a completely new Cinematik Talent Award, which went to the main protagonists of the film, Dominika Moravková and Milan Ondrík.
