The goal: an agreement in Davos

On Friday, during a press conference with Czech President Petr Pavlo, Zelensky announced that Ukrainian negotiators are on their way to the United States. According to him, the document on US security guarantees for Kyiv could be signed already during the upcoming conference of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

“As President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized, we are working on two key documents: agreements on security guarantees and economic prosperity of Ukraine, which could be signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The aim of the visit is to refine these agreements with American partners,” wrote the Ukrainian ambassador to the US.

Trump and the peace plan

Zelenskyi also discussed ending the war in Ukraine with the head of the White House, Donald Trump, at the end of December. After the meeting at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, the US president said “a lot of progress” had been made and there were one or two sensitive issues, including territorial ones, on which Russia and Ukraine differ and negotiations would continue.

Zelenskyy said that “all aspects of the peace framework” were discussed in Florida and that the 20-point peace plan was “90 percent agreed upon.”
