The explosion in a central area of Utrecht caused the collapse of several buildings and injured four people, who were taken to hospital.
The authorities, while firefighters are investigating the damaged buildings for possible trapped people.

“The fire service is currently investigating how damaged buildings and collapsed buildings can be safely checked to see if anyone is still inside. Extensive damage is reported in the surrounding area,” the authorities said.
The city is facing widespread damage, with streets littered with debris and broken glass, while the Red Cross called for volunteers at the local hospital, which operates an emergency trauma center.
