The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, said today that the meeting she had with the US president at the White House went very well and was “wonderful”.
Machado declined to say whether she gave the US president the Nobel Prize she was awarded in December, as she had hinted she would.
The White House spokeswoman, however, after Machado’s working lunch with Trump, said the Republican president made a “realistic assessment” of popular support for the opposition leader in her country. No timetable has been announced for when elections will be held in Venezuela.
Machado went to the White House for her first meeting with Trump as she tries to ensure that he will take on a future role in governing her country.
