White House adviser plays down Fed chair investigation

WASHINGTON, Jan 16 (Reuters) – White House Counsel Kevin Hassett on Friday downplayed the federal criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, saying he hoped there was nothing to see.

The ‌Fed’s investigation is a simple request for information that should come soon and then move forward, Hassett said in an interview with CNBC.

He ⁠said ⁠he wished there had been ‌more transparency about the cost overruns‍of renovations at the Fed headquarters, ‌the focus of the Justice Department‍investigation.
