Home cultivation is increasingly associated not only with saving money, but also with caring for health. Some products have unique health-promoting properties and are perfect for self-planting, and are also a great remedy for colds. Thanks to this, we can have constant access to natural support for immunity and well-being. We tell you what is worth having on your windowsill.
If you want to enjoy healthy cultivation at home, it is worth reaching for something that we often buy in the store, as an addition to tea or various types of dishes. We’re talking about ginger. For planting, it is best to choose healthy and firm rhizomes that have clearly visible “eyes” from which shoots will grow.
Due to the fact that ginger purchased in supermarkets is often protected with substances that inhibit its growth, it is worth soaking it in warm water for 1-2 days before plantingto speed up germination and get rid of these substances.
If we have chosen quite large rhizomes, we must divide them into smaller pieces, which will be about 3 cm long. However, make sure that each of them has at least one “eye” mentioned. After dividing them, leave them for a day in a dry place, allow the cuts to dry and a protective layer to form on them. This will prevent the rhizomes from rotting.
After preparing the ginger, we can move on to planting it. Due to the fact that it grows primarily in width, we must choose a wide and shallow potwhich has drainage holes. We should assume that each rhizome will require approximately 20 cm of container diameter. A drainage layer should be placed at its bottom.
Then we pour in the soil, which should be slightly acidic, fertile, permeable and rich in humus. We can use po for this universal flower, which we mix with perlite, sand or mature compost.
Place the ginger rhizomes horizontally at a depth of 5 cm, with the “eyes” pointing upwards. Cover them with about 2-3 cm of soil and water them thoroughly. Cover the pot with transparent foil so that create your own mini-greenhouse that will allow you to maintain the right temperature and humidity. We remove it when the first shoots appear. However, we must be patient because it may take about 12 months for the rhizome to fully develop before harvesting.

During the development of ginger, we must provide it with appropriate conditions. The plant needs a temperature of about 22-25 degrees Celsius to germinateand during growth it should not be lower than 20 degrees. In turn, when the plant is dormant, it must be at least 10 degrees Celsius.
As for light, yes ginger grows best in a bright place with diffused light. In addition, it needs constantly moist soil without water stagnation. Let’s also ensure high air humidity and fertilize the specimen in spring and summer.
