From Kenya, José Castelo Branco decided to speak publicly about the legal process in which he is accused, assuming a position of serenity and confidence in the outcome in court. The Portuguese socialite states that he has been following the case calmly and rejects having exerted any form of aggression against Betty Grafstein, with whom he has had a decades-long relationship.

Despite the physical distance, Castelo Branco guarantees that the current separation is the result of a strategic choice during the process and not an emotional separation. He himself emphasizes that he is waiting for the courts to complete their work before any face-to-face rapprochement.

Confidence in the judicial outcome

According to the newspaper Correio da Manhã, José Castelo Branco believes that the facts will eventually be clarified in court and is confident of a favorable outcome. The defendant states that he has followed the instructions of his defense and that he respects the process times.

According to the same source, the socialite explains that he will only return to Portugal if formally requested, guaranteeing his availability to cooperate with justice whenever necessary.

The distance option

The newspaper writes that Castelo Branco is currently in Kenya, maintaining professional activity outside Portugal. The defendant states that he works in the United States and depends on his salary, which is why he does not consider an immediate move to national territory viable.

The publication adds that the decision not to visit Betty Grafstein during this period aimed to avoid any type of emotional pressure, ensuring that face-to-face contact will take place after a sentence.

Request for pardon assumed

Despite denying violent behavior, José Castelo Branco admits the possibility of having unintentionally hurt his partner throughout the relationship. In this context, he left a public request for forgiveness addressed to Betty Grafstein.

“I ask Betty’s forgiveness if I ever hurt her. We always live on excesses”, he told the same newspaper, adding that he was never aware that he was acting against his wife’s will.

Relationship marked by intensity

According to the same source, the socialite describes the relationship as intense and built on a record of shared excesses, referring to the couple as “soulmates”. Castelo Branco admits that Betty Grafstein’s advanced age may have made her more vulnerable.

The defendant adds that his main desire is for his partner to know that she was never abandoned, stressing that emotional reconciliation continues to be a personal priority.

Period of social disruption

He also writes that José Castelo Branco recognizes that the last few months have been particularly difficult on a personal and social level. The socialite states that he felt the departure of several people from his circle after the process began.

Despite this context, Castelo Branco says he is in a process of personal reconstruction, ensuring that he has reinvented himself to deal with the new reality, without losing hope that the situation will be clarified judicially.
