President of Uruguay considered that, with the agreement, “historic responsibility with the rule of law, democracy and fair trade” is assumed.
The president of Uruguay Yamandú Orsi stated this Saturday, 17th, that the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, which will be signed this afternoon, says “more than any declaration”. “That we believe in lasting consensus, in institutions and that we continue to build an international order based on rules, predictability and cooperation”, he stated.
Orsi considered that, with the agreement, “historic responsibility with the rule of law, democracy and fair trade” is assumed. At the beginning of his speech he considered that some pacts “are signed under ideal conditions and others when circumstances require”.
“In a world plagued by tensions and erosion of certainties, the agreement has particular relevance. Not only because it constitutes the largest free trade area in the world, but because it reaffirms a clear decision. Committing to the rules in a time of volatility and permanent changes”, he stressed.

Still according to the president of Uruguay, the pact sends the message that the agreement expresses the central aspiration of international insertion. “For us, being sustainable means being predictable; and being predictable means being reliable”, he also highlighted, explaining that the agreement “also strengthens political dialogue based on democracy and human rights”.
