Sleepless, desperate, with a spark of hope: fateful days for the Iranian community in Austria

“Every day I believe more and more that the regime is over,” says Ulduz Ahmadzadeh about the passionate hope with which she follows the protest movement that began in Iran around two weeks ago. Ahmadzadeh grew up in the capital Tehran until she had to leave her homeland for Austria in 2008 with a heavy heart in order to finally be able to practice her art freely here. Since then, Ahmadzadeh has been working in Vienna as a dancer and choreographer. Such a career was unthinkable under the Islamist mullahs’ dictatorship: women were simply forbidden from dancing in public.
