The weekend will be intensely hot, stuffy and occasional rains across Acre. At least, that’s what climate researcher Davi Friale predicts, who emphasized that the combination of high temperatures and high humidity will keep the weather unstable, while the state’s main rivers remain at high levels.
According to Friale, pulses of humidity coming from the Atlantic Ocean favor the occurrence of rapid and punctual rains. “But, in some areas, they can be strong, accompanied by thunderstorms and moderate gusts of wind”, he explains.

In Rio Branco, the volumes of rain recorded throughout January are already attracting attention. “Until this Friday, it had already rained 261.4 millimeters in the capital, which represents 91.4% of the average for the month”, highlights Friale, based on data from the National Institute of Meteorology. He adds that, at the National Water Agency station, located on the banks of the Acre River, the accumulated volume has already reached 289.8 mm, exceeding the historical monthly average.
Temperatures are expected to remain high. “The maximum temperatures are, in general, between 30 and 33 degrees, and may exceed this value in areas with fewer clouds”, says the researcher. The minimum temperatures, according to him, vary between 21°C and 24°C, maintaining the feeling of heat since the beginning of the day.
Another point of attention is the behavior of rivers. In Rio Branco, the Acre River reached an overflow level of 14 meters this Friday (16). “The river should remain high throughout the weekend, but at this time, there is no sign of alarming flooding,” says Friale.
In Cruzeiro do Sul, the scenario also demands attention. “The Juruá River remains at a high level and tends to rise again”, says the researcher. Other important rivers in the state, such as the Iaco, the Tarauacá, the Purus and the Envira, also remain above normal, although there is still no immediate risk.
The biggest alert, however, remains for the next few days. “Between Monday (19) and Thursday (22), atmospheric conditions will be highly favorable to the occurrence of intense rain, with accumulations that can exceed 80 millimeters in isolated points”, warns Friale.
According to him, this scenario could bring inconvenience to the population. “There is a risk of flooded streets, overflowing streams, falling trees, landslides and damage to buildings, especially in more vulnerable areas”, he concludes.
