Trump announces “Peace Council” with Rubio and Tony Blair to rebuild Gaza

The White House announced the creation of a body called the “peace council” to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the transitional administration of the territory, following a ceasefire signed at the end of last year. The collegiate will be chaired by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

According to a statement released this Friday (16), the American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff will be part of the council.

According to the plan presented, the “peace council” will be responsible for monitoring reconstruction works, administrative reorganization and political arrangements in Gaza, in coordination with Israel, Arab countries and the international community.

“The United States remains fully committed to supporting this transition framework, working in close partnership with Israel, key Arab nations and the international community,” states the White House statement.

The statement also provides for the creation of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which will be led by Ali Sha’ath, former leader of the Palestinian Authority and born in Gaza.

Trump also named Aryeh Lightstone and Josh Gruenbaum as senior advisors to the council, in charge of “strategy and day-to-day operations” related to the plan for the territory.
