The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, warned this Saturday that “tariff threats are unacceptable,” in response to the measures announced by the American president, Donald Trump, and assured that Europeans will respond “in a united and coordinated manner if these are confirmed.”
“Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. We Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner if these are confirmed. We will know how to enforce European sovereignty,” declared the French president, in a message in ‘X’ and in which he does not explicitly cite either Trump or the United States.
Macron announced that he will meet with the rest of the European leaders, without specifying when, in an attempt to show firmness on the part of the EU in the face of Trump’s announcement to impose, as of February 1, a 10% tariff on all products from eight European countries that have sent troops to Greenland, a region that the US president wants to annex.
