Aston Villa loses to Everton and moves away from the top of the Premier League

Aston Villa lost 1-0 to Everton this Sunday (18) and ended a streak of 11 straight wins at home.

Thierno Barry scored the winning goal for the visitors in the second half, further removing the home team from the chance to compete for the Premier League title. Arsenal, who drew on Saturday (17), are seven points behind 2nd and 3rd place.

Villa remain third in the table with 43 points from 22 games. Everton rose to 10th place, with 32 points.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 59th minute, when Pau Torres had a bad touch and Dwight McNeil took advantage to collect the ball. When McNeil’s shot was saved by Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, Barry pounced on the rebound and tapped the ball home.

Both teams also had clear chances that ended up hitting the post, with Everton being the first to do so just 11 seconds into the game.

The visitors also had a goal disallowed for offside, following a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
