After a campaign “that was not always super enlightening”, 11 million Portuguese people are today called to “choose the future”. What the candidates say at the polls, who believe in the “common sense of the Portuguese” when it comes to “honoring the right to vote that took a lot to achieve”.
The presidential candidate Humberto Correia he was the first of the 11 candidates to vote, shortly after 9 am. When depositing the ballot in the ballot box, he stated that his vote was historic — for the candidate, for his ancestors and future generations.
“This vote for me is historic. For me, for my past years and my future generations”, he stated, justifying the statement with the fact that he is a humble person, “from nothing, from poverty and managed to get here”.
António José Segurowho voted at 10 am, in Caldas da Rainha, says he believes in “common sense of the Portuguesewho will mobilize and vote, because everyone will want to decide“.
João Cotrim de Figueiredowho voted at a school in Lisbon, expects a drop in abstention and appeals: “come vote, don’t wasteThe IL candidate pointed to the magnificent day as one of the reasons to leave home, go vote and “choose the future”.
“I hope this campaign, which was not always hyper enlighteningbut it was always mobilizing, could result in a much, much greater number of voters. Come vote, come vote, don’t waste it, Don’t let others chooser for you”, he appealed.
The candidate supported by the PCP, Antonio Filipe asked that the Portuguese “honor the right to vote, right to vote that took a lot to achieve to the Portuguese, the exercise of the right to vote in freedom, in conscience, out of conviction”. And then, it is “waiting for the results”.
For Catarina Martins“democracy is a party”. The candidate supported by BE says that voting “is a huge responsibility, it is together that we define our collective future. It is a day that must be celebration of everyone’s rights.
The candidate supported by Livre, Jorge Pinto, who voted for Amarante, says he has a “sense of duty accomplished” after a long but constructive campaign, and highlights that “Democracy is all of us, and the Portuguese are sovereign”.
Already Luís Marques Mendeswho voted in Oeiras, hopes that people will vote “in defense of your country“, at a complex time in the international context. “What I want is a great participation in this election”, said the candidate supported by the PSD, who considers that “the Portuguese generally have common sense“.
André Pestanawho voted in Coimbra, regrets having been disregarded and “discriminated against the other candidates. These are the rules of the system, but I think people begin to see that there are those who say something different“, highlighted the STOP leader.
At the time of this edition, Chega’s leader, André venturae Henrique Gouveia e Melo they had not yet voted.
Anyone who hasn’t voted yet was Manuel João Vieirawho announced that he will do so at 3pm, and that wants to be the first to speak to the countrys, as soon as the first results estimates are released, at 8:13 pm.
At 10pm, the candidate says that for all Portuguese, “are you able to go home because you need to go to bed earlyhas a young son and on Monday we work“.
