Rui Tavares considers presidential elections "very important" due to the international context

Livre’s spokesperson today considered it “very important” that the Portuguese vote for the President of the Republic, taking into account the context of “great international instability” and the “relevant role” played by the head of state.

“These are very important elections. They are elections that take place in a context of great international instability, as we are seeing, from the news yesterday and today, of the tension between the United States and the European Union and the President of the Republic has a very relevant role in this matter”, Rui Tavares told journalists after voting at Liceu Gil Vicente, in Lisbon.

For the Livre spokesperson, “it is very important that all” Portuguese people “express their vote” and that the “elections take place in good order, free and fair and very well participated”.

Rui Tavares expressed hope that today’s elections will have a lower abstention rate than that recorded in the presidential elections held in 2021.

The Livre spokesperson also stated that “it is always a happy day when you use the freedoms that were won at such cost in our country”, remembering the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese Constitution that will be celebrated.
