Trump wants countries to pay billions for permanent seat on Gaza Peace Council

The proposal also suggests that the money be under the direct control of the president of the Peace Council, Donald Trump. According to Bloomberg, most countries opposed the conditions.

The Trump administration has said countries that want a permanent place on the Gaza Peace Council will have to contribute around $1 billion.

The news is advanced by the agency who had access to the project for the formation of the group.

“Each Member State will have a mandate of no more than three years from the entry into force of this charter. (…) The three-year mandate does not apply to countries that contribute more than one billion dollars in the first year after the entry into force of the charter”, quotes Bloomberg.

This Council is part of the second phase of the peace plan for Gazafocused on the disarmament of Hamas, and aims to oversee the Palestinian committee of technocrats that will provisionally administer the territory during the transition period.
