Vienna – Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler (SPÖ) announced on Sunday in the ORF “press hour” which foods will in future be subject to a preferential VAT rate. These include basic foods such as bread, milk, butter and eggs as well as many types of fruit and vegetables native to Austria. The tax rate will be 4.9 percent, less than half that for other foods.
