“We are deciding the nation’s highest role as it relates to our quality of life”

Inês de Sousa Real re-elected PAN spokesperson and wins all leadership positions

PAN leader Inês Sousa-Real exercised his right to vote this morning at Telheiras Basic School 2.3in Lisbon. Speaking to journalists, he asked Portuguese people who don’t stop going to vote because “it doesn’t matter who is going to be elected President of the Republic”.

PAN spokesperson, Inês Sousa Real, highlighted the importance of voters voting today regardless of the possibility of a second round of presidential elections, remembering the role of the President of the Republic inour quality of life“.

“Regardless of whether people know that there is a possibility of a second round, they should not stop going out to vote, because we are deciding what the next few years will be like, of a role, the highest role of the nation, which concerns us all in terms of our quality of life”,

The deputy reinforced the importance of the position of President of the Republic, who plays a role that “it says a lot about stability and not just about the representation of the country abroad”, especially in a context of “geopolitical instability”.

Inês Sousa Real also highlighted the importance of “adaptation of votes in Braille”, which allows “people with visual impairments to also participate”.

In all, to compete for the Presidency of the Republic, in an election with almost 11 million registered voters. The candidate who obtains more than half (50%) of the votes validly cast, that is, an absolute majority, will be elected, with blank votes not being considered as such.

If this does not happen, a scenario that many point out as likely, on February 8, there will be a second vote in which only the two candidates with the most votes will compete. And, in this second round, the candidate who obtains the highest number of votes will be elected.

More than 11 million voters are called to choose Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s successor, in very disputed elections for the Presidency of the Republic and with a record 11 candidates.

According to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI), they were registered on the electoral roll to the reference date of January 3rd.

Of these, 218,481 voters registered in the national territory, including which took place last Sunday.
