Someone recently asked me at a bar: “How is it that this ancient board game of chess is so popular in our crazy, digitalized times?”
It wasn’t a rhetorical question, the man wanted an answer. He earns his money with AI applications, and it simply didn’t occur to him why young people who have a whole universe of computer games at their disposal would voluntarily tune in by the hundreds of thousands or even millions to the broadcasts of “Gotham Chess” and all the other chess streamers who have become international celebrities of the digital age in recent years.
