After historic controversy, Senegal wins in extra time and is CAN champion

Senegal is champion of the 2025/2026 African Cup of Nations. The team beat Morocco, who were playing at home, 1-0, in extra time.

The final was marked by a historic controversy: in the last play of normal time, after eight minutes of stoppage time, the referee awarded a penalty to the Moroccans, for an alleged foul inside the area on Brahim Díaz. Unsatisfied, the Senegalese threatened to leave the field.

In the end, Brahim Díaz himself wasted the charge, shooting weakly over the Senegal goalkeeper.
