The victims are Luís Roberto Pellegrini Gomes, aged 43, and Vinicius dos Santos Oliveira, aged 35.
One of the lines of investigation by the São Paulo Civil Police into the murder of two doctors shot dead by Carlos Alberto Azevedo Silva Filho, aged 44, during a fight in a restaurant in Alphaville, in Greater São Paulo, is the dispute over a tender.
The victims are Luís Roberto Pellegrini Gomes, aged 43, and Vinicius dos Santos Oliveira, aged 35.
In an interview with Band TV’s Brasil Urgente program, the case’s delegate, Andreas Schiffmann, said that the discussion about the money for this bid may have motivated the double murder.
“They are all doctors and owners of two competing hospital management companies. These disagreements had been occurring for some time and were always related to bidding contracts that they were competing for. Basically, everything revolved around the money that these contracts could generate.”
Estadão was unable to locate Silva Filho’s defense In a statement, the medical services provider Cirmed Brasil, where he is a partner, stated that the crimes do not correspond “to the values and principles of the institution”.
The company claims to have become aware of the fact “involving, on a strictly personal level, one of its partners” and highlighted that these are “personal and isolated facts”, which cannot be confused with its institutional, assistance or operational activities.
The case delegate also stated that the meeting of the three doctors happened occasionally.
“The perpetrator of the crime was already in the restaurant when the other two doctors arrived. He was at a table, on the outside of the restaurant, while the other two were at the waiting tables. When the doctors arrived, he stood up, greeted them and began to argue heatedly.”
At the time of the discussion, Silva Filho was unarmed, a fact confirmed by Metropolitan Civil Guard agents who searched the man. After the situation calms down, he takes the gun out of a suitcase, a fact that must be investigated by the police:
“He took this weapon out of a suitcase that he always carries with him. We need to find out if this suitcase was already there inside the restaurant or if it was brought by someone”, says the delegate.
Regarding the fact that witnesses reported that a woman took this weapon to the suspect, delegate Andreas Schiffmann said that she will be heard. “She has been identified, she will be heard, as will the friends who were with him too, to clarify precisely this point.”
Schiffmann assesses that Carlos Alberto Azevedo Silva Filho can be classified into two categories in the crime of double homicide: futile or clumsy motive, since the case involves money AND resources that made it impossible for the victim to defend himself.
Understand the case
The crime occurred on the night of Friday, the 16th, in a restaurant in Alphaville.
Security camera footage shows Silva Filho approaching the table where the victims were and starting an argument. At one point, he attacks Luís Roberto, and Vinicius tries to intervene, getting into a physical fight with the shooter. Restaurant employees tried to separate the three.
After the fight, Luís Roberto and Vinicius left the restaurant. Shortly afterwards, Silva Filho returned armed and shot the two several times, who died at the scene.
Civil Guard agents, who were nearby, surrendered and handcuffed the doctor, who was arrested in the act. On Saturday, the 17th, Silva Filho underwent a custody hearing and had his arrest converted into preventive custody. His defense was not located.
Luís Roberto was a cardiologist and worked at a municipal hospital in Barueri. Vinicius, hit by two shots, worked in health units in Cotia.
