Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni called an increase in tariffs for nations seeking to contribute to Greenland’s security “a mistake” and did not share that position, in comments to reporters on Sunday (18). On the other hand, she considered that there may have been “a problem of understanding, communication and interpretation” by the USA regarding European moves to send troops to the island that belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark.
“A European-level meeting has been called and I believe it is very important for us to talk and avoid escalation, we can work together to achieve an objective. I am working to reduce tensions and resume dialogue”, he stated.
Meloni stated that he spoke with American President Donald Trump and explained his thoughts on the issue, and added that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies are also working on a strategy to guarantee the security of the region.
“From an American point of view, perhaps the message that was sent on this side of the Atlantic was not clear. The intention of some European countries was not anti-American, the actors that are of concern are others”, he mentioned.

Regarding Gaza, the prime minister said that Italy was invited to participate in the Peace Council set up by Trump and said she hoped the country would “make a difference”.
