The Boxing Federation announces the sad news that, on January 14, 2026, after a long illness, at the age of 85, Leonid Borisovich Roitman passed away, reports
He was born and lived in , was the USSR Master of Sports in boxing, multiple champion and medalist at the championships of the Republic of Moldova and at the Union competitions. Graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education of the Pedagogical Institute in Chisinau. He worked as a boxing coach in Chisinau, forming a host of champions and medalists of the country and of the Union competitions.
For several years, he successfully worked as the head coach of the famous boxing school in Magadan, whose best students, such as Igor Vysotsky, Victor Rybakov and others, achieved remarkable success in the rings of the Soviet Union and internationally. He was awarded the honorary title of Emeritus Coach of the RSFSR.
After returning to Chisinau, he actively and efficiently devoted himself to business, becoming a renowned entrepreneur. Leonid Borisovici actively collaborated with the Boxing Federation of Moldova, participated in the organization of the “Days of Boxing Veterans” and other events, offering concrete material help to many Moldovan boxing veterans.
The Boxing Federation of Moldova and the entire boxer community send their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Leonid Borisovici Roitman.
