Play against Santos? Corinthians coach talks about the situation in Memphis

Coach Dorival Júnior spoke about the situation of striker Memphis Depay, who has not yet debuted for Corinthians in 2025.

This Sunday (18), in a press conference, the coach was direct in stating that the number 10 will not be available against Santos, on Thursday (22), for the Campeonato Paulista.

“Memphis is ruled out for Thursday’s game,” said Dorival, when asked about the offensive options available on the squad. The statement was made after Corinthians’ draw with São Paulo, at Neo Química Arena.

Afterwards, the coach detailed the Dutchman’s scenario, who still has no set deadline for returning to the field. The player did not have a new injury diagnosed, but played in the final stretch of 2025 “in sacrifice”, even in pain.

“We are waiting. He is starting the transition. But this transition still has some limitations, including the maintenance of some pain. We don’t know the level of pain. We have to be calm. We need to let things happen”, replied the coach.

Memphis was diagnosed with bone edema in his left knee in the last week of November and was once again available for the decisive games of the Copa do Brasil. The number 10 scored the title goal of the competition, against Vasco, at Maracanã.

In total, Depay has 19 goals and 14 assists in 65 games for Corinthians, 51 of which as a starter. The striker’s contract with the club is valid until the middle of the year.
