A hole opened at km 265 of BR-317, close to the municipality of Epitaciolândia, in the interior of Acre, after part of the shoulder gave way in the early afternoon of last Sunday (18). The problem occurred after heavy rains that hit the region in recent days.

The location had to go through a partial lockdown for safety reasons, and was promptly flagged, while teams from the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) began maintenance work this Monday (19). However, vehicle traffic continues to flow normally.

The section draws attention because it is very close to a point that has already broken in the past. In March 2021, BR-317 gave way at km 264, practically in the same region, causing a complete interruption of traffic.

That year, the road broke after the Igarapé Monte Santo pipeline could not withstand the large volume of water, which ended up temporarily isolating municipalities in the Alto Acre region, such as Epitaciolândia, Brasiléia and Assis Brasil.

According to the regional superintendent of DNIT, Ricardo Araújo, the current hole opened close to a gallery built at the site. He explained that the river level rose quickly because of the intense rain, but that the teams acted quickly.

“The location was marked on Sunday and the works began this Monday. The work is expected to be completed by Thursday. Traffic was not interrupted and vehicles continue to pass normally”, stated the superintendent.
