The company ensures that the absolute priority is to support those affected by the accident
iryo, the company responsible for one of the trains involved in the collision in Adamuz, Spain, where it “deeply regrets the serious railway accident that occurred yesterday afternoon and presents, on behalf of the entire company, its condolences to the families of the fatal victims, as well as solidarity and support for all those injured, wishing them a speedy recovery”.
This resulted in 39 deaths, 170 minor injuries and 73 people hospitalized, 24 of which are in serious condition and five in very serious condition.
According to the note, iryo’s CEO, Fabrizio Favara, went to the scene of the accident on Sunday night. The company’s president, Carlos Bertomeu, is on his way to the location.
“According to the information available to date, train 6189, which was traveling on the Malaga–Madrid route, departed yesterday, Sunday, January 18, from the original station at 6:40 pm, with 289 passengers, four crew members and a driver on board. At 7:45 pm, and for reasons still unknown, the train invaded the adjacent road. As the Minister of Transport indicated yesterday, this is of an accident that occurred on a straight section of the line, and the train in circulation was of a new construction, manufactured in 2022, and whose last inspection was carried out on January 15th”, the note reads.
The operator thanked Renfe for the collaboration and the work carried out by the emergency services and assured that the absolute priority is to support those affected by the accident.
“The company has provided an assistance line for passengers and their families, through the number 900 001 402, remaining available to provide the necessary support”, reads the note, which adds that iryo maintains permanent contact with national, regional and local authorities and guarantees full availability to collaborate with the commission responsible for the investigation.
As a sign of respect for the victims, iryo decided to cancel participation in planned events, including the agenda at the FITUR tourism fair.
