Ratinho Jr. creates Border Police and reinforces security – 01/19/2026 – Panel

Pre-candidate for president, the governor of Paraná, (PSD), reinforced the and announced the creation of a Border Police, with the aim of preventing the entry of criminals, drugs and contraband from other countries or states.

The first operational base of this new structure should be inaugurated this week in the city of Ribeirão Claro, on the border with São Paulo.

The project is to have 11 bases bringing together personnel from, from and municipal guards. The promise is to equip the locals with new vehicles and rifles.

The discourse of combating insecurity has been adopted by politicians who aim to run for President in October. Ratinho has even defended a change in the legal framework, giving states the possibility of toughening sentences on their own, which would require a constitutional change.

According to the management of Paraná, the Border Police bases will function as strategic points, with land, nautical and air policing structures to support actions to combat crime.

There must also be information sharing between systems and databases, including cameras from the state government’s Olho Vivo program.

One of the arguments presented by the government is the need to reinforce control over the circulation of drugs in the state. In 2025, forces from Paraná led the seizure of marijuana in Brazil, as a result of its proximity to Paraguay.
