The federal deputy and former governor of Maranhão, Roseana Sarney (MDB-MA), aged 72, was hospitalized with pneumonia. The parliamentarian published on social media, on Sunday night, a video confirming her hospitalization while treating triple-negative breast cancer, a rare and aggressive type of tumor.
In the video, Roseana tells her followers that last week “wasn’t the best”. She was discharged on Thursday, but had to return to the hospital the next day.
— I caught pneumonia, I don’t know where, so I had to go to the hospital, and I’m still in the hospital, treating the pneumonia — he said.
Because of the new situation, the medical team decided to suspend the last chemotherapy session, which was scheduled for the 27th. Roseana said that she will now go straight to the surgical stage of the treatment.
— Now, I’m going straight to surgery. I’m very hopeful. I think everything will be fine and I count on your prayers, of course, with God’s protection – he highlighted.
Daughter of former president José Sarney (MDB), Roseana governed Maranhão for four terms and was also a senator. In fact, she was the first woman elected to head a state Executive in the country, in 1994, at the time by the PFL.

The parliamentarian announced in August this year that she was facing the disease, diagnosed during a check-up.
On December 1st, Roseana was hospitalized due to low immunity. This is not the first time that Roseana has battled cancer. In 1998, she was diagnosed with the disease and underwent breast, lung and intestinal surgery. At the time, he was campaigning for re-election to the government of Maranhão.
Roseana is also attended to by Roberto Kalil, Lula’s doctor, who accompanied the president’s visit to the deputy. In an interview with GLOBO in November he stated that he was “not afraid of death”:
— I work my brain to be optimistic. I always had a lot of faith. Faith sustains me. I don’t let go of my rosary, my protection. Always before going into hospital, I read the Bible and give it to God. I ask the spirits of light to come help me, for my grandparents to protect me. And I am very grateful to my doctors, to science – he said.
