Secretary-General talks to Trump amid US-European tension over Greenland

The secretary-general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, said he spoke with United States President Donald Trump this Sunday about the “security situation” in Greenland and the Arctic.

“We will continue working on this and I hope to see you in Davos later this week,” said Rutte, in a publication on X, in reference to the World Economic Forum taking place in the next few days, in the Swiss Alps.

The dialogue takes place amid an unprecedented worsening of tensions between the US and Europe, given Trump’s insistence on threats to buy Greenland, a territory from Denmark.
