The Kremlin spokesman reacts to Trump’s statements: If he gets Greenland, he will go down in world history

It is hard to disagree with experts who say that if US President Donald Trump takes control of Greenland, he will make history in the United States and the world. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this on Monday, writes TASR based on a Reuters report.

  • The Kremlin said Trump’s takeover of Greenland would be historic.
  • Russian spokesman Peskov refused to evaluate the intention to acquire Greenland as positive or negative.
  • Trump repeatedly declares an interest in Greenland in the interest of national security.
  • Russia and China reject Western accusations of a threat to Greenland.
  • Russian diplomacy criticizes Western double standards in the dispute over Greenland.

“International experts believe that by resolving the issue of Greenland’s annexation (to the US), Trump will certainly go down in history. Not only in the history of the United States, but also in world history.” Peskov declared.

The Kremlin spokesman claims that he states this as a fact without a positive or negative assessment. “Here it is perhaps appropriate to disregard whether it is good or bad, whether it will be in accordance with the parameters of international law or not,” assessed Peskov.

He was responding to repeated statements by the US president that needs Greenland to acquire “in the interests of national security”. If that doesn’t happen, Russia or China will get it. He did not rule out the use of military force to achieve this goal.

When asked by journalists about Trump’s statements regarding the alleged Russian threat, Peskov said that there has been a lot of “disturbing information” from the US president recently, but the Kremlin does not want to comment on it.

Last week, Russia called the West’s claims that they threaten Greenland together with China as unacceptable. According to the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, the current disputes between Europe and the USA about the future of this Danish autonomous territory point to the double standards of the Western powers.
