According to Vondrášek, the police received two reports about the shooting shortly before 10:00 a.m. and subsequently more were reported. The police were on the scene in a few minutes, the attacker was eliminated at 10:21 a.m. According to Vondrášek, he killed himself. “The attacker also shot at the policemen, who went into action without hesitation and returned fire. The attacker did not hold a firearms license, he had several illegally held weapons with him,” said the police president.
Dvořák: The crime was not politically or religiously motivated
Regional police director Dvořák specified that there were three weapons – short and long. He confirmed that the mayor of the city, Jan Machač, is also among the injured. “The crime was not motivated politically or religiously. It is not a terrorist attack, the motive is probably relationship problems that resulted in such a fatal crime,” said Dvořák.
Minister of the Interior Lubomír Metnar was also present, who stated that of the six injured, three are civilians who are in hospital, and the other injured are three police officers. He added that their lives are not in danger and their injuries are rather light. He thanked the police for their deployment. “They did quality work on the spot, they prevented further tragic consequences,” the minister added, adding that it was an unprecedented breach of public order and security in the Czech Republic.
