Paul-Henri Spaak, former Belgian prime minister and one of the founding fathers of European unification (1899-1972), warned: “There are only two types of countries in Europe: small countries and countries that are small but don’t yet know it.” In a world of superpowers and in a Europe threatened not only by a nuclear-armed Russia but also by the neo-imperialist blackmail tactics of the Trump administration, it is a matter of unity or falling victim.
