According to preliminary reports, the driver of one of the trams probably did not have time to brake when she arrived at the stop. “Traffic police found out that the driver of one of the trams crashed into a stationary tram from behind. The accident happened on Monday morning before 4:30 a.m. All elements of the rescue system intervene on the spot,” announced Ostrava police spokeswoman Pavla Jiroušková. She informed about two injured persons who were treated by paramedics. “Traffic is currently gradually being restored,” specified the spokeswoman before seven o’clock.

The middle-aged driver was trapped in the vehicle after the impact. “The rescuers who intervened gave her painkillers before the rescue work began… after the rescue, they placed her in a vacuum mattress and ensured her thermal comfort. The woman suffered a serious injury to her lower limb,” said a spokesman for the emergency services. Subsequently, she was taken to the emergency admission to the Ostrava University Hospital, where they also transported a 59-year-old passenger with head and hand injuries.
