Aurora borealis seen in unusual regions of Europe after solar storm

One Northern lights were recorded in unusual areas of Europe this weekafter increased solar activity causes intense geomagnetic conditions. The show known as “northern lights”could be seen both in the northwest of England, on Monday night (19), and over Greenland and Portugal, this Tuesday (20).

Not UK, Residents have reported the presence of vibrant shades of green and pink lighting up the night sky.

A video recorded in the town of Wesham, in the North West of England, shows light strips rippling over buildings at night. Follow the phenomenon:

The images were verified by the Reuters agency, which confirmed the location based on buildings, trees and satellite images, in addition to the date, validated by time stamps on security cameras.

According to the Met Office, the British meteorological service, and Aurora Watch UK, a which raised geomagnetic levels to the point where the phenomenon could be observed across most of the United Kingdom.

In Greenland, the phenomenon was observed on Tuesday night, with the sky lit up in greenish tones. According to experts, the aurora was caused by a coronal mass ejection on the Sun, which intensified the interaction between solar particles and the Earth’s magnetic field.

The event was also seen in several locations in Portugal, such as Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu and Setúbal since Monday night.

The aurora borealis occurs when charged particles emitted by the Sun collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, producing lights visible mainly at high latitudes.

like the one recorded this week, expand the phenomenon’s visibility area, allowing it to be observed in locations further away from the Arctic Circle.
