Course results reinforce OAB of Medicine, says CFM – 01/19/2026 – Panel

The first edition of the (National Medical Training Assessment Examination), which showed that a third of the courses did not have satisfactory scores, reinforces the need for an assessment in the style of that carried out by the (Brazilian Bar Association), says the advisor of the (Federal Council of Medicine) Francisco Eduardo Cardoso Alves.

This Monday (19), the ministries of () and () announced that a total of 99 courses could be punished for not achieving a score considered satisfactory.

The exam is seen as a government response to a bill that is being processed in the National Congress and wants to create a type of assessment in the area, with its own assessment not linked to the ministry, but rather to the CFM.

Alves says it is worrying to know that “13 thousand students, due to deficiencies in the college where they graduated, were unable to obtain the minimum pass rate.”

“And they will receive the CRM [registro concedido pelo Conselho Regional de Medicina] and they will be able to put their hands on a patient. That’s what we don’t want to happen anymore,” he says.

The advisor defends the “OAB of medicine” and states that MEC (Ministry of Education) and private colleges “are systematically blocking and boycotting this approval”.

“They don’t want to be evaluated, they don’t want to be measured, because they know that the training they provide to students is mediocre, it’s pitiful, it’s risky,” he says.

“In my opinion, this is a case of risk to public security, to collective public health, and there should be some action in society to prevent, even if it is judicially, that these students, these failed colleges, can receive CRM and can continue enrolling and training doctors as is”, he adds.
