French President Emmanuel Macron speaks during a plenary session in the Congress Hall, at the 56th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in Davos, Switzerland.
Brigitte is already being blamed on social media, but Macron explained. However, Trump released a private message he received from the French president.
Emmanuel Macron took the stage at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, this Tuesday, and quickly caught everyone’s attention: he was… wearing sunglasses. And hours before, during an open-air inspection of troops, he had already presented himself with the same glasses. Theories quickly began circulating on social media.
The glasses come after the French president appeared, days earlier, with a swollen and reddened eye at a military base in Istres, in the south of France. It was then that the head of state anticipated the comments and assured that the situation was “completely harmless”.
“Please ignore the unpleasant appearance of my eye. It is, of course, something completely harmless”, he began by stating. It’s “an unintentional reference to ‘Eye of the Tiger’, a sign of determination”, he joked, in reference to the song by the North American band Survivor, associated with the film Rocky III (1982), starring Sylvester Stallone.
In fact, he later explained, the glasses “are related to a benign problem”, and the president is obliged “to wear them for some time, so they will have to see me like this”, he stated. It is a subconjunctival hemorrhagebleeding under the conjunctiva, the transparent membrane of the eye, which forms a red spot on the white part of the eye. Nothing serious.
Despite the explanation, on social media, several users began to invent rumors, namely, blaming the president’s companion, Brigitte Macron, months after she was seen touching (or slapping, in the opinion of some) her husband, a moment that was devalued by both.
Macron’s intervention this Tuesday focused on strategic themes and military priorities for 2026. Among them, the French leader acceleration of French rearmament, continued support for Ukraine and the decision to send troops to Greenlandas a show of support for Denmark in the face of the US threat.
“My dear, let’s have dinner together”
The diplomatic context intensified throughout the day, after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, released a message that was written by Macron:
“My dear, we are completely aligned on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I don’t understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let’s try to build great things”, read the message, released by Trump on Truth Social. And it goes like this:
“1) I can organize a G7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon. I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danes, the Syrians and the Russians who are on the sidelines. 2) Let’s have dinner together in Paris on Thursday before returning to the US. Emanuel.”
Despite everything, Macron told journalists that he does not intend to speak to Trump on the sidelines of the meeting in Davos.
