During carnival, it is worth preparing a sweet snack that will not only be more delicate than normal donuts, but will also take less time to make. We tell you how to prepare this unique delicacy and what to take care of while making it so that the cake turns out fluffy and soft.
When looking for an alternative to traditional donuts, it is worth being inspired by Italian cuisine and preparing a delicacy that is much more delicate and tastes amazing.. We are talking about small donuts called zeppole.
Their preparation is based on the flour steaming technique, which makes the donuts are fluffy and empty inside. Due to the fact that they are not deep fried, they are much lighter and at the same time still have a great structure.
Preparing these delicious baked goods is not complicated as long as you follow all the steps carefully. First, however, we need to equip ourselves with the necessary ingredientsi. Oto one:
- 300 ml of water,
- 140 g of butter,
- 6 eggs,
- 220 g of wheat flour,
- a pinch of salt,
- powdered sugar for dusting.
The first step is to boil water with butter and a pinch of salt in a pot. Then reduce the heat and pour the sifted flour into the boiling water, stirring constantly. Knead the dough until it is smooth and sticks away from the sides of the bowl. Let the whole thing cool down.

The next step is to mix the dough with eggs, adding them gradually so that each subsequent egg is added only after mixing the previous one. Place the dough in a pastry bag with a star-shaped tip. Place circles with a diameter of about 8 cm on a baking tray previously lined with baking paper, keeping a space between themy. bake in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius for about 20-25 minutes. After taking them out, let them cool on a rack and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
According to the traditional Italian recipe, these donuts are served only with powdered sugar. We can have them though fill with a light vanilla cream based on mascarpone or with ricotta mixed with a bit of lemon zest.
