Left-wing politicians signed a manifesto in which they warn of the advance of the world and criticize the “intensification of imperialist aggressions aimed at appropriating resources and exploiting populations”.
The document is signed by 230 personalities from 50 countries. In Brazil, the writer Frei Betto, federal deputies Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) and Fernanda Melchionna (PSOL-RS), the former governors of Rio Grande do Sul Tarso Genro and Olivio Dutra and , one of the leaders of , among other names, signed.
The manifesto states that extreme right-wing and neo-fascist forces are advancing on all continents” and cites common elements that would prove this, such as attempts to make labor protections more flexible, privatization and austerity policies, in addition to increased military spending.
According to the text, there is an attempt to direct discontent with neoliberalism towards “oppressed and dispossessed groups”, including migrants, women, people and beneficiaries of social programs.
“The desire to accumulate wealth in the hands of capital and the tireless search for maximum profit that sustain far-right policies are also manifested in the intensification of imperialist aggression aimed at appropriating resources and exploiting populations”, indicates the text.
“This phenomenon is intertwined with the perpetuation of colonial situations, exemplified by the case of Palestine, where it takes the form of a genocide orchestrated by the State of Israel with the complicity of its imperialist allies”, he continues.
The document defends the alliance of forces to coordinate concrete actions and calls for the International Anti-Fascist and Anti-Imperialist Conference, which will be held in Porto Alegre from March 26th to 29th.
