The President of the Republic, , questioned the way the President of the , , governs, with extensive use of social networks. In his first term, Trump used Twitter (now X, after being purchased by businessman Elon Musk) for announcements and comments. After being banned from the network, he started using Truth Social, his own social network.

Lula’s comment came while the Brazilian president was speaking at an event in Rio Grande (RS), at the delivery of housing units under Minha Casa, Minha Vida. Lula criticized the intense use of cell phones, something he does frequently in his speeches and in his day-to-day life at Palácio do Planalto.

“Every deputy is addicted to this (cell phone). I was waiting if there would be someone with a cell phone, because I was going to eat the liver here. Cell phones are prohibited in my office, cell phones are prohibited in the office. Sometimes you’re talking and you’re looking and people are (looking at their cell phones), they’re not in the meeting”, declared the Brazilian president.

Lula then commented on Trump’s habits, with whom he has established a closer relationship in recent months.

“Have you noticed something, that President Trump wants to rule the world through Twitter? It’s fantastic. Every day he says something and every day the world talks about the thing he said. Do you think it’s possible? It’s possible to treat the people with respect if I don’t look you in the face, if I think you are objects, and not a human being”, said the PT member.

2026 needs to be the year of comparison between the current government and those of Temer and Bolsonaro

In a speech with an electoral tone, the president stated that this year needs to be a year of “comparison” between the current government and the mandates of former presidents Michel Temer (MDB) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“We need to make the year 2026 the year of comparison. Let’s take the year in which Dilma was impeached [Dilma Rousseff, ex-presidente da República]in 2016, we will take the Temer government and the Bolsonaro government, and we will make a comparison of what we did in three years with what they did in seven years”, said the president.

Lula also declared that the Bolsonaro government “almost destroyed the country” and that the first two years of his government were about “trying to reform and recover this country”.

He also said that comparisons between governments must be made to “end the era of lies”. The president also cited misinformation spread on the networks in recent days, where his statements at an event held last Friday, the 16th, were taken out of context. One of them would suggest that the PT member defended that the poor were made to work, not study, and that he had the wrong pronoun of federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP).

“The truth, you have to explain. The lie, you just have to speak. These days, I had a meeting at the Mint, and I gave a speech, and they are now looking at what I’m saying. They want to take one or two words here so that they can distort it and send it to the world on the internet”, declared the president.

This Tuesday, the 20th, Lula delivered 1,276 housing units at the Junção Development, in Rio Grande (RS), under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida – Entidades Program (MCMV-E). The houses were inaugurated by the government by directing unused or idle Union properties for social housing.
