  • According to the minister, the admission procedure will be fairer and smoother.

The closest to secondary schools, from February 8. In the system, parents will determine the preferred order of schools to which they want to apply. One application can be submitted to several schools. In the Czech Republic, such a system has existed for three years. Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) informed about this at Tuesday’s press conference.

“First of all, parents register in this system. The registration is quite simple, very similar to what they are used to in other systems. The advantage is that we are trying to destroy a lot of data that the state already knows exists, such as links of personal data through the population register,” said the minister.

As he pointed out, parents can register in the eApplication system using their identity card or enter their birth number, identity card number and email. A video tutorial is also available. According to Drucker, trainings are conducted for school principals. Technical support is also available.

Applications for secondary schools in the first round can be submitted from February 8 to February 20, for primary schools from April 1 to April 30, and for kindergartens from May 1 to May 31, 2026. Children and parents will soon have to choose a secondary school. According to the minister, they will choose a priority school regardless of whether it is a talented or non-talented secondary school. If the non-talented school is the priority and the other is the talented one, the system will not yet decide on admission or not, since the entrance exams for talented secondary schools take place earlier.

At the same time, the minister added that otherwise, if the parents designate a gifted school as a priority and the child successfully passes the entrance exams, he will be automatically accepted and will no longer continue the admission process at a non-talented school. Parents can choose two non-gifted schools and two gifted schools. “The total number of maximum applications parents can apply to high schools is four,” said Drucker. According to him, the results will be published at the beginning of June.

He explained that in the application, the parent ranks the schools from the most to the least preferred, and the system then works with the order of applicants, school capacities and legal admission criteria. If a child gets into a school with a higher priority, the system automatically frees up places at less preferred schools for other children. According to him, the admission procedure thus becomes fairer and smoother.

Applications can still be submitted in paper form. According to the minister, the school has an obligation to register such applications in the electronic system. “For many schools, it should not be a very complicated system, because many of the data will be pre-read, i.e. after they register a few data, the rest of the data will be loaded,” he added.
