Santiago and his girlfriend survived the train disaster, but saw many people lose their lives
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the two Portuguese who were involved in the accident that involved the derailment of two trains and left 41 people dead, in southern Spain, on Sunday, are fine.
This Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) had announced that a Portuguese woman was already “well and at home” and that the health status of another Portuguese “who was flagged by the Spanish authorities” was still unknown, and it is now known that he is equally well.
The other Portuguese, we now know, is Santiago Salvador, who shared, at the end of the night, a video on social media saying that he is “one of the survivors of the train accident in Aldamuz”.
“I’m alive. It was a very tragic accident, it seemed like hell. There were very injured people. I saw a lot of death, a lot of dead…”, he reported in the video.
“I was with my girlfriend [espanhola]. I started flying around the wagon, it felt like I was on a merry-go-round. Luckily I’m alive and so is my girlfriend. It was a divine force, it’s a miracle to be alive“, he added.
Finally, the Portuguese, who broke his tibia and fibula, made a appeal to love: “You have to live life, because it is short. Be grateful to all the people you have by your side and Don’t get upset over nonsense. Value the love between you morebecause one day we are here and the next we are in heaven…”.
“It wasn’t my turn to go to heaven”he concluded, with relief.
41 confirmed dead
O death toll in the train accident in Córdoba, in southern Spain, on Sunday, rose to 41local authorities said today.
The authorities estimated the total number of injured at around 150of varying severity, in Sunday’s accident, which involved two trains from Spain’s high-speed network in which close to 500 people were traveling.
The train accident occurred at around 7:45 pm on Sunday (6:45 pm in Lisbon), in the municipality of Adamuz and involved two high-speed trains, one from the private company Iryo (which had left Málaga and was headed to Madrid), and the other from the public company Renfe (which was traveling in the opposite direction, from Madrid to Huelva, close to the border with Portugal, in the Algarve).
The last three carriages of the Iryo train derailed and invaded another track where the Renfe train was traveling, in a place known as the Adamuz stop, where there is a line maintenance “substation” and where there is a needle changing point.
The Iryo company train, which had left Málaga at 6:40 pm on Sunday heading to Puerta de Atocha (Madrid) with nearly 70 people on board, derailed and three carriages invaded the adjacent track, on which another Renfe train headed to Huelva was traveling at the same time, which also derailed.
The cars of the Iryo train collided with the first two cars of the Renfe train, which were thrown and fell down an embankment of around four meters.
The Spanish Government today declared three days of national mourning, from Tuesday to Thursday, announced Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
