US President Donald Trump will hold a press conference at the White House on Tuesday at 19:00 CET. He will organize it exactly one year after the start of his second term of office and at a time of international tension in connection with his efforts to acquire Greenland. This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.
Shortly before announcing Trump’s appearance at the regular White House press briefing, which is usually conducted by his spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, the American president published a post on his Truth Social network, where he claimed that NATO still exists only because of him.
“No person or president has done more for NATO than President Donald J. Trump. If I had not come, NATO would not exist now!!! It would be in the ruins of history. Sad but TRUE!!!” Trump wrote.
NATO allies do not agree with Trump’s intention to take control of Greenland, which, according to the head of the White House, the US needs for reasons of national security. They argue that to protect the Arctic, it is not necessary for the US to seize the island, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
The press conference will take place a few hours before Trump’s flight to Davos, Switzerland, where he will attend the World Economic Forum. Trump announced that he would be there to discuss Greenland with “different parties”. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, for example, expressed interest in meeting him. On the contrary, French President Emmanuel Macron does not plan to meet with his American counterpart. According to the media, representatives of the Danish government also canceled their participation in the forum.
