The national secretary of Industrial Fisheries, Expedito Netto, joined the party on January 14th with the intention of running for government.
He has said, in the past, that his mission was to go against the president’s administration and predicted the “end of the party’s career” with the impeachment of the former president in 2016.
The Panel sought Netto and assistance from the PT of Rondônia, but there was no response.
In April 2016, Netto was a federal deputy for the PSD and voted in favor of , considered a coup by the PT. In his vote, he classified the day as historic.
“The government never imagined that once again a Gonçalves Ferreira, that once again a Rondônia native would be here, today, carrying out this coup, giving this divine sword, the sword of mercy, to the government”, stated the then deputy.
When justifying his vote, Netto stated that his family “suffered at the hands of the PT” and said he had seen friends suffer at the hands of the Dilma government, “with indecent proposals, proposals made even by the Judiciary”.
“I came here today to exercise my mandate, to represent the State of Rondônia, which knows what is right. My mission was to go against this government, to go against corruption, to come and represent the hard-working and honest people of Rondônia”, he stated.
He ended his speech with a direct message to the then president: “Tomorrow you and the PT will end your career. And Brazil, once again, will be able to grow again; and Brazil, once again, will be able to flourish again.”
Regarding Netto’s affiliation, the PT, PV and PCdoB federation issued a statement praising the party’s new framework.
“The arrival of the former deputy and current National Secretary of Fisheries to join the Workers’ Party reinforces not only the PT, but the entire left, which this year will embrace the re-election of President Lula in Rondônia”, stated Ernesto Ferreira, president of the PT of Rondônia. “The fact that he is placing himself as a pre-candidate for governor further reinforces his commitment.”
Rondônia is one of the most Bolsonaro states in Brazil. In 2022, (PL) had 70.66% of the votes against 29.34% for the current president (PT).
If confirmed as a candidate for government, Expedito Netto must face names such as senator Marcos Rogério (PL) and the mayor of Cacoal, Adailton Fúria (PSD).
