The First Panel of the (Supreme Federal Court) accepted a complaint against the woman who harassed the minister during a flight in September.

Maria Shirlei Piontkievicz, 57, became a defendant on charges of insult, incitement to crime and attacking air transport security. The complaint was received unanimously on December 12th. The minister, rapporteur of the process, voted in favor and was accompanied by Cristiano Zanin. Flávio Dino declared himself offside.

The nurse attacked Dino during a flight between and Brasília. The minister reported, in a note released by his advisor at the time, that the passenger shouted that she did not respect “this kind of people” and that the plane “was contaminated”. She tried to advance towards the minister’s seat and was restrained by a security guard, Dino said.

The complaint states that she tried to physically attack the minister. The piece says that the passenger “caused a disturbance and exposed the crew and the aircraft to danger.”

Upon arriving in the federal capital, Dino was removed from the plane. The woman was taken by agents, gave a statement and was subsequently released.

In response to the complaint, Maria Shirlei’s defense argued the lack of just cause for the criminal action. The lawyers stated that there is no minimum proof of materiality or authorship and that there was no intent or concrete danger that would characterize a risk to the aircraft. The defense asked her to answer only for the crime of insult.
