The PP takes over the presidency of the Extremaduran Assembly after Vox suspended the negotiations | Spain

Almost a month later, PP and Vox attended the constitution session of the Assembly this Tuesday with opposing positions. The lack of understanding after suspending María Guardiola has caused them to vote without agreement and separately on the composition of the Regional Chamber Board. Thus, the PP candidate, Manuel Naharro, has been appointed after achieving victory by a simple majority and in the second round only with the support of his party, 29 seats. A scenario that further complicates the conversations between the forces of the right to form a Government in the community. Naharro now has a maximum of 15 days to designate a candidate for the investiture.

The lack of agreement between the two groups did not in any case prevent the PP from taking three of the six positions on the Board this Tuesday (including the presidency) and from Vox obtaining a position, that of third secretary, as a consequence. A vote that continues at the moment with these unknowns on the table.

It was the ultras’ candidate for the regional elections, Óscar Fernández, who this Monday informed Guardiola that the talks were frozen until further notice. And the positions had not moved in the last hours, marked by exchanges of accusations through statements and messages on social networks. In the end, both parties have presented and voted for their own candidates for the Presidency of the Assembly. The ultras, Senator Ángel Pelayo Gordillo, who has obtained the 11 votes of his formation.

The stoppage of contacts between PP and Vox occurred hours before the constitution of the Assembly and the vote on the composition of the Board. The procedure to appoint the figure who holds the Presidency of the body, which Naharro already occupies, has come from a nominal and secret vote. The balance of forces has thus obeyed, proportionally, the results of the 21-D polls, which awarded 29 seats to the PP, 18 to the PSOE, 11 to Vox and 7 to Unidas por Extremadura.

At the beginning of the session, the Age Table has been established, which is chaired by the deputy María Jesús Salvatierra (Vox) as she is the oldest, and as secretaries the two youngest among the attending deputies, who are Zulema Romero (PP) and Aitor Vaquerizo (PSOE). Then, one after another, the 65 regional deputies have taken the stage to acquire their full status as parliamentarians.

They have done so under an oath or promise to “abide by the Spanish Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy of Extremadura.” “And faithfully fulfill the obligations inherent to my status as deputy of the Assembly of Extremadura,” they have been repeating since 10 in the morning and after the regional Parliament has observed a minute of silence for the Adamuz accident (Córdoba). There are those who have added some variants to the solemn formula such as “loyalty to the King”, praise to the “Republic”, defense of “the dignity of my land” or to build a “more just, feminist and sustainable” society.

The former secretary general of the PSOE Miguel Gallardo has not arrived and is no longer subject to the trial by the brother of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in which he is being prosecuted. After the oaths or promises, the Board voted.

From the election of the Board, the president of the Assembly will have a period of 15 days to designate the candidate to preside over the Board, who must submit to the investiture within the same period. The vote will take place, therefore, after the elections in Aragon, on February 8, in which the PP and Vox once again face each other at the polls.
